Well our little boy did great! Better than the mommy! He went down without a fuss which was very nice. Colin and I sat down with some pinot noir from Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery (our new favorite), some Lindt dark chocolate from Ecuador (another new favorite) and watched 30 Rock (also our favorite)! It was a lovely evening. We then headed for bed where I burst into tears and recounted Rupert's first moments of life as well as his time in the hospital... We prayed for our dear little boy and turned out the lights and turned the baby monitor way up :D This was not my brightest of ideas as the whole reason I wanted him to be in his own room was because his breathing was annoying me, but hearing that breathing was what was giving me peace about him being in his own room. Is it possible to be annoyed and at peace at the same time? Anyways I did get some sleep and I know it will get easier as time goes on. Rupert woke up bright and early at 6 thirty which is early for him, he's usually awake at 7 thirty or 8am. This would be why I don't have a photo of him waking up from his first full night in his own room, I was grumpy to be awoken at such an early hour... ( I know that 6 thirty is not early for some people, but after a night of fretting it felt extremely early!) I tried to get him back to sleep but it was to no avail. So I got him up but waited till his regular time for a feed, he actually waited very patiently! I also waited till his regular nap time. I thought he would be a bear by that time, but he wasn't which was very nice! I put him down for his nap... three hours later the boy woke up! Unheard of! The most he's ever napped is 2 hours... That boy needs to listen to his mommy when she tells him to go back to sleep, she knows a thing or two! Anyways, it was a very good start to the process! I'm sure he will have nights where he will wake up and be fussy, but I think he was ready to be in his big bed in his own room. Thought I would include one photo :D Our boy, doing what he does best, being extremely cute!

The time has come...
Operation Rupert sleeps in his big crib and his own room has begun!
Big crib? Check!
Baby Beluga? Check!
Tea for mommy to drink while Rupert sleeps? Check!

Sleepy baby? Check!
The time has come the walrus said to talk of many things... well not really many things.. just one thing.... Rupert sleeping in his big crib in his own room! Since his urinary tract infection/time at Children's hospital, I have been dreading this day. I have been worried that I won't be able to hear or sense if something is wrong; being as with the urinary tract infection I woke up to the sound of his weird breathing and that's how I knew something was wrong. And even though his room is right on the other side of the wall from us it feels like he's so far away and the thought of such a little baby (well I guess not that little in Rupe's case) in a big room without his mommy or daddy brings tears to my eyes even as I write this! However it's such a weird dichotomy... because on the flip side he is driving me insane with his loud breathing and rustling in the morning!!!!! It starts at about 4 thirty in the morning and goes until 7 thirty/8! He doesn't wake up, he just tosses and turns his head, kicks his feet and grunts. It wakes me up every morning and I can't get back to sleep because I am so irritated. Meanwhile, Colin, who is deaf in one ear rolls onto his good ear so he can't hear a thing... and then he starts his loud breathing and I am stuck in between two very noisy sleepers! Not fair! So anyways, it's just time for Rupert to be in his own room, he's getting too big for his "napper" in our room and I am just not getting enough sleep with his fussing in the morning. And yes I know that lack of sleep is part of being a mom and I need to just suck it up... but I'm hoping that him sleeping in his own room will help me get a bit more sleep and be a bit happier of a mommy! So my head is in a jumble between being sad/nervous that he's going to be in his own room and also glad that he's in his own room.
So... here's the plan! I'm starting with naps in his big crib/own room today! So far so good by the way.... :D And then I'm going to try tonight as well.... might as well jump right in! I know there will probably be tears on both our parts and I might not get very much sleep tonight but in the long run it will be a good thing!
2 hours later!!!!!!!!!! He's awake! yay, first nap in his big crib/own room went super well! Here's my happy little boy after his 2 hour nap in his crib!
Will keep you posted on how the night goes!

summer evenings...
This weekend saw us venturing out to Abbotsford for a much needed and desired play date with Aunty Megan and the cousins! Megan made us a delicious dinner of bbq chicken and veggies, rice and one of her classic salads. It was wonderful! She is a super woman, I can barely scrounge up dinner with one baby and she's got a baby and a toddler!
After feeding ourselves we fed the babies :D Uncle Colin entertained Halle outside with his mad water skills! Megan and I were inside with our little ones listening to screams of delight from Halle as Colin would turn the hose on and off again. We also heard Colin screaming as Halle gained control of the hose and started chasing him!
We then headed to Dairy Queen to eat some cool treats! Surprisingly Halle was not too interested in ice cream... her source of entertainment was cleaning the table with some napkins (her mother's daughter :D ) and scrounging up some floor food at which point Uncle Colin took her outside to play on the playground! Colin later told me that Halle wanted to go on the BIG slide, so he helped her up to the top and then made his way around to the bottom to catch her. He looked up at her and saw terror in her eyes. Colin said to her, "Is it too big Halle?" She looked at him and nodded, "too big, too big!" Uncle Colin to the rescue got her down and they continued to play!
We arrived home and Halle was ready for bed after an exciting evening! So off to bed she went and the two little ones rolled around on the floor kicking and squawking . Perfect time for a photo shoot right? Right! Enter Colin with the camera and Megan and Sarah the entertainers! Here are a few shots from the night.
It was such an enjoyable evening! I love summer evenings when the sun is going down and it's cooled off enough to need a light sweater but still warm enough to be outside. The sky is pink and the air smells so sweet. So nice to spend such a lovely night with some of our favorite people!
We are terribly sad to be leaving them in only a month or so... but I know that even though the water separates us they will grow up to be great friends and go on many adventures together! It will be very fun to take the ferry to go and visit Aunty Megan, Uncle Steve and the cousins!

Fish and Chips and Vinnegar
This Sunday at Church was "soccer Sunday" where the families from soccer camp are invited to the church for a service with fun loud music and a great kid friendly message. So being as it is insanely loud and there are flashing lights we decided to head out to the relaxing calm of White Rock... Crescent Beach to be exact.
So as soon as Rupert was finished his lunch we headed out... all his gear in tow.
Colin and I enjoyed some delicious fish and chips which I haven't had since before I was pregnant with Rupert, which made them even more delicious! We also had some ice cream even though it was a bit of a cooler day. Rupert watched as we ate our tasty treats with drool streaming down his face which is actually a permanent fixture lately as well as lots of bubbles!
Then off we went on our walk. Rupert decided not to sleep and to cry instead... not so relaxing... Eventually he calmed down and looked around at all the people and things passing him by. He is such a little observer! He of course fell asleep the minute the car started on the ride home. Precious little boy.

Father's day!
A little late, but better late than never....

Colin's first Father's Day began with one of his favorite breakfasts... Reece peanut butter puff cereal. Rupert could not participate in the breakfast festivities but one day we are sure that he will delight in the yummyness that is sugar cereal with us; however he did enjoy his thumb!
Sadly the present that I ordered for Colin for Father's day did not come in on time... a button with Rupert on it wearing a shirt that says My daddy is a super hero! However I got the call today so hopefully will be able to post some photos of the proud daddy wearing the button. So Colin just got a card on actual father's day... but it was an amazing John Deere card so hopefully that made up for it.
We spent our day with a short outing to Toy Traders, a favorite store of daddy's where we bought some toys for Rupert. A whale shark and a wooly mammoth. We are more excited about them than he is right now. We then came home and ate treats and watched 30 Rock which Colin got for his birthday... he's pretty lucky to have his birthday and father's day in the same week!
I also found some yummy treats to commemorate the special day, Tim Tams. They are a delicious cookie that you have to eat a certain way to fully appreciate how delicious they truly are. So here are some photos of Colin demonstrating how to eat the cookie!
First you take the cookie and bite off opposite corners.
You then dip one of those corners into a hot drink... our drink of choice was an americano! Then suck up the drink from the opposite corner.
As soon as the drink hits your mouth shove the whole cookie into your mouth... the hot drink will have melted the chocolatey goodness in the middle!
Enjoy!
Father's day also brought us another delicious pizza! For those of you wondering it was a chicken club style pizza. Pizza sauce mixed with alfredo sauce... then for toppings, onions, peppers, chicken, tomatoes, bacon, avocados and to top it off mozzarella cheese! It was super good!
At the end of the day Father and son crashed on the couch together and enjoyed some zzz's

Play date in the park...
Today Rupert and I went on a lovely play date with Rupert's new friends Landon and Jaden! I had a play date of my own with my good friends Kristin and Angela. I first started working with Kristin at Wind and Tide almost 2 years ago. She was pregnant at the time with Landon and so eventually went on mat leave... enter Angela! Angela and I finished up the year together and then she went on mat leave with Jaden... then it was my turn with Rupert. I am so blessed to have worked and become friends with both of these wonderful women and am so excited for Rupert to have these little playmates.

It was great morning! The mommies sipped starbucks and delighted in timbits, watermelon and crackers with fancy cheese. We chatted about motherhood and what our crazy little boys were up to. The boys are all at different stages of life which was really fun to watch. Landon, the oldest was all over the playground. Up and down the slide, pointing to planes and chatting with those who walked by. Jaden at eight months old was looking everywhere, eating his mommy's knee and trying to walk with a little extra help. Rupert.... slept.
It was absolutely wonderful to be out in the sunshine with a cool breeze and talking to adults! Thank you ladies for a delightful morning!

Family Night
Ever since we have been married Colin and I have talked about how excited we were to have family nights when we had kids... well we have a kid now so bring on the family night! Family night to us includes three things.... pizza, a movie and of course family! This week's family night consisted of thai chicken pizza, Finding Nemo, and me, Colin and Rupert.
Rupert was all ready to watch Finding Nemo... he was decked out in his shark shirt and fish socks from Aunty Em and his whale soother from Aunty Megan. Too bad he only made it through the first half hour before he drifted off to sleep.
We also finished the evening off with some ice cream sandwiches and a walk in the cool evening air. We are looking forward to the days when Rupert can actually eat the pizza, watch the movie and stay awake during our walk. But for now we are quite content with our sleeping baby!
For those who are curious about the thai chicken pizza... I cooked the chicken in peanut sauce, coconut milk and lime juice. As well as the chicken, pizza sauce, cilantro, peppers, onions, pineapples and cheese made up the toppings for the pizza! It was delicious!
I included this pic because I think he looks so much like Colin!
This photo is just freakin adorable and so obviously I had to post it!
